Functional Medicine Roundtable Launches
The Academy of
Functional Medicine, Dentistry & Psychology, LLC, will be introducing an informative, new line-up of
educational services beginning in August. The Academy's Director of Operations, Donna Gullato, has compiled
feedback from practitioners, doctors and clinicians who have participated in the Academy's previous webinar-based
courses. Overwhelmingly, participants have suggested that innovative educational products are needed to expand the
educational opportunities in this rapidly changing field.
The first new service to be introduced will be the Roundtable Discussions. This series of weekly
webinars is designed for the “hands-on” practitioners who prefer or find value in a “direct patient care”
educational format. Specifically, the series is broken down into weekly one-hour sessions where
practitioners may present cases or listen to others present cases and learn about real patients receiving ongoing
care. One or more of the Academy's expert facilitators will be on hand to discuss cases. All input from
participants is valued regardless of their prior training or experience in functional medicine or genomics.
The Roundtable Discussions are scheduled to meet on Wednesday evenings from 9:00 - 10:00 PM EST
starting on August 31, 2011. All sessions will be recorded and participants will have access to them at any
time.
The Roundtable Discussions will be kicked off by Dr. Patrick Flynn, founder of Gear-Up and the
Wellness Way, and Dr. Michael Gruttadauria, founder of the Long Island Spectrum Center. Both practitioners are
renowned Functional Medicine speakers, and both serve on the Academy's Advisory Board. Dr. Gruttadauria
additionally heads the Academy's steering committee and has been very instrumental in shaping the Academy's new
genre of services. Dr. C.E. Gant will also be available for some discussions as his schedule
permits.
For the first
few weeks, Drs. Flynn and Gruttadauria will be presenting their own cases at the Roundtable. The line-up is as
follows:
* August 31 - Dr. Flynn –Functional Medicine Approach to patients with GI Tract
Disorders * September 7 - Dr. Flynn - Functional
Medicine Approach to female patients with Hormonal Imbalances
*
September 14 - Dr. Gruttadauria - Functional Medicine Approach to patients with Autism and
Childhood Spectrum Disorders
The Roundtable is a free benefit for those currently enrolled in
the Academy’s Functional Medicine Certification course and
also those in the GearUp Doctor program).
Note: For a limited time, the
Roundtable will be free of charge to anyone.

The Academy is chaired by Dr. CE Gant, MD, PhD,
who is a pioneer and global expert of Functional Medicine, and also
deemed to be one of the world’s best when it comes to lab test interpretation. The Academy is
renowned for their Functional Medicine Certification program. Seventy-two weeks in duration, and
divided into 12 six-week modules, the program is the most comprehensive in the field. Reason
being, it’s the only course that addresses both the physical and mental health issues of the
patient. The Academy is also enrolling for their upcoming module on Organic Acids
that will begin on September 20th.

NEWS RELEASE - September 24,
2010
The Academy of Functional Medicine, Dentistry and
Psychology Provides the Solution to Diagnosing and Treating the Root Biochemical Causes of
Chronic Diseases
The Academy of Functional Medicine, Dentistry & Psychology, LLC, seeks to educate practitioners on the
benefits of performing medical testing, diagnosis and treatment strategies as it relates to all chronic diseases.
According to its Chief Science Officer, Dr. C. E. Gant, (MD, PhD), “Once participants begin to appreciate the
wisdom of investigating, the unique, root, biochemical causes of suffering in each patient, they will never be
satisfied with guessing again.” He then quoted what one would call the Functional Medicine creed,
“If you don’t test, you’ve guessed.”
While modern medicine has made astonishing advances in the treatment of acute healthcare problems, consumers are
increasingly suffering from chronic diseases, such as arthritis, diabetes, cancer, addictions, depression, heart
disease and auto-immune disorders. There are many tools to address chronic health problems in a doctor’s toolbox,
however, only Functional Medicine offers the comprehensive set of specialized technologies to assist practitioners
in getting to the root biochemical causes of these chronic problems.
Dr. Gant, an internist, has provided healthcare for tens-of-thousands of patients for over three decades. In his
opinion, authentic ‘care’ entails taking the time and making the effort to deeply understand the root, unique
and physical causes of each patient’s suffering.
Under the urging of the Academy’s executive staff, (one being a former patient of Dr. Gant’s), he formulated the
Academy’s Functional Medicine curriculum, the most comprehensive in the field, with the goal to educate as many
practitioners as practical on these methodologies. Dr. Gant and the Academy’s staff believe that the so-called
‘healthcare crisis’ is a crisis of ignorance, a preoccupation with diagnostic labels and diseases which somehow
magically ‘just happen’ without well-defined causes.
Dr. Gant states that he has always cared too much about his patients to allow them to suffer from this delusion.
He not only carries out this premise throughout his practice, but also to his students. He makes it clear that
all chronic diseases, maladies, disorders and illnesses are merely fantasized labels for various types
of mental and physical suffering that have been invented over the ages before science knew what the underlying
causes actually were. Through the Academy’s Functional Medicine Certification Program, he carefully and urgently
compels his students to break through this level of ignorance and to achieve far better outcomes than that of
mainstream medicine.
The Functional Medicine
Certification’s 72-week program, offers a ‘live’ webinar format. It is also divided into six-modules, so that
students can participate from the convenience of their home, at their own pace, and on their own
schedule. All sessions are recorded so missed sessions can be made up. Its structure is highly
participative with extensive review of case studies, forums and discussions. Gant incorporated this approach
to enhance learning transfer. To quote his analogy, “a student pilot can only resort to theory for so
long. At some point, they need to get into the cockpit and fly the plane.”
Dr. Gant, along with other Academy instructors employ this method as the emphasis of the curriculum will
be on learning how to think about medical and psychiatric disorders through biochemical and physiological
investigations, rather than on what to think, which is a more conventional approach to learning about
healthcare matters.
Upon completion of the program, one is prepared to implement this new way of thinking. This
exciting paradigm shift has refreshed many healthcare practitioner careers as every patient now approached teaches
them new information as they investigate the underlying, scientific basis of their suffering.
The Functional Medicine Certification Program, now entering its third year continues to receive rave
reviews. The common thread of its accolades from students is the privilege to study under Dr. Gant, who
besides being a pioneer and global expert of Functional Medicine, is also deemed to be one of the best in the world
when it comes to lab test interpretation.
The Academy is now enrolling for its fall semester’s Functional Medicine Certification Program, which will
be held on Tuesday evenings from 8:00 – 9:30 PM Eastern, beginning October 5, 2010. The program is
competitively priced and payment terms are offered if needed. (Note: Classes continue throughout the
year and students may enroll at any time) For more information, please call
